Colour in Candles: Softness, Light, and Balance

Colour in Candles: Softness, Light, and Balance

Colour behaves differently in wax than it does on paper or fabric. Light passes through it. Flame warms it. Shadows change it again.

That’s why I gravitate toward soft, muted tones. Warm greys, gentle creams, quiet blushes. These colours allow the flame to remain the focus, rather than competing with it.

Strong colours can be beautiful, but they often dominate a space. Softer shades tend to settle in more naturally, adapting to different rooms and different times of day.

Colour also affects how a candle ages. Subtle tones feel timeless. They sit comfortably alongside changing interiors, rather than tying themselves to a particular trend.

When choosing colour, I think about longevity. Not only how it looks on a shelf, but how it feels weeks later, once it has become part of daily life.

A candle doesn’t need to shout to be noticed. Sometimes it’s the quiet presence that stays with you the longest.
